*RARE MODEL 1903 ROCK ISLAND HOFFER-THOMPSON BOLT ACTION MILITARY TRAINING RIFLE. Cal. 22. SN 201251. Rare trainer with 24” Springfield Armory bbl dated “4-20”. It is full size 1903 dimensions with standard 1903 sights with front hood, mounted in a 1-pc walnut stock with later style upper handguard. It has milled floorplate & trigger guard and an early orig military sling. These rifles were converted from 30-06 by being re-barreled into the smaller caliber but with a full 30-06 chamber. They utilized a sub-caliber adapter which is shaped like the 30-06 but loaded with a 22 caliber short. They were loaded into the rifle from stripper clips like regular full size ammunition or singly as needed. Being sold elsewhere in this auction is a McKeever cartridge box containing 20 of these sub-caliber adapters. CONDITION: Very fine. Metal retains a mottled blue/brown patina with thin blue on floorplate. Wood is sound with a fine hand worn patina. Mechanics are fine, very bright shiny bore.
