OVER/UNDER RIFLE/SHOTGUN BY JOHN SHROCK WITH ACCESSORIES. Cal. 45 perc/11 bore. NSN. 32-3/4” steel bbls with makers name “J.D. SHROCK” on top of rifle bbl. Top bbl contains a notched rear sight & blade front sight. There is an artificially striped shotgun loading rod with brass tip & partial brass end on one side and a matching rifle loading rod on other side which has the ball screw & cover remaining. It uses matching engraved locks on either side of gun, one for rifle & one for shotgun. It has typical Remington furniture. Buttplate, loop triggerguard, patchbox cap box, toe plate, comb plate & cheek plate are all German silver with line engraving around the side. According to consignor’s research file which is included as provenance, Schrock used Remington parts to build his firearms in Indiana. Accompanying the piece are an orig powder horn & a pouch with a wooden powder measure & a nipple pick & brush. The pouch at one time contained a “SHROCK” marked brass sugarloaf bullet mold, steel wad cutter, extra sight, tin box of caps, a mainspring vice, turkey quill tube, bag of lead balls & cardboard wad. These items are now in a framed display box. Powder horn is inscribed with owner’s name “D. L. BULLMAN” and dated “FEBUARY1868”. The research file contains information on Jacob D. Shrock & his son, Harvey Shrock and other pertinent information. There is an article about the Shrocks & the rifle on p. 6 of Muzzle Blasts, a publication from Portsmouth, Ohio dated March 1947 (The article has last name spelled differently than what is on rifle/shotgun). CONDITION: Smooth gray/brown patina overall with traces of orig brown in protected places. Black finish on stock has worn through in some areas but is generally fine with minor dents & scratches. Nipples have been replaced. Mechanically fine. 4-59365 JH147 (1,500-2,250)
