*SPRINGFIELD ARMORY MODEL 1903 “ROD-BAYONET”. Cal. 30-03. SN 4400. The ramrod bayonet ’03 is considered the Holy Grail among ’03 collectors. Unaltered examples with any condition at all are considered the most extremely rare ’03 obtainable, as most were modified to the 1905-06 update. CONDITION: Receiver retains approximately 85-90% of its orig finish with some light, scattered pitting on front receiver ring. Bbl assembly retains 95% of its orig blue with both the front and rear sight assemblies turning to patina. Ramrod bayonet retains 85% blue, while the mounting stud retains approximately 50% with some light pitting on both sides. Bolt on this particular rifle is blued as is the extractor, so might possibly be a replacement. Triggerguard and floorplate assembly exhibits 80-85% of orig blue with a small dent in floorplate itself and a slight buggering of the front screw. Rifle is equipped with a Rock Island Arsenal, dated “1903”, Krag-type sling that is in excellent overall condition, with just a few slight scratches, and slightly dry. Buttplate retains approx. 50% orig finish with dings throughout and slight rusting around the edges. Stock is in good condition with no cartouche and a slight repair or crack at the upper tang corner of the buttplate. Other than that, stock is in very good condition with very few minor dings and reasonably sharp finger groovers. Upper hand guard assembly is very good plus, with just a very slight mar approx. 2” in front of the rivets that hold the retaining clip and are very insignificant and very unnoticeable. Bore is in good condition with some pitting about 1-1/2” rear of the muzzle. Mechanics are excellent. Overall a very rare gun in very acceptable condition. Edwards collection. 4-58511 BK56 (18,000-28,000)
