*EXTREMELY RARE WINCHESTER M30 SEMI AUTOMATIC RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. SN 7. 22” rnd bbl. This prototype is fully marked, “WINCHESTER / TRADE MARK / MODEL 30 / MADE IN NEW HAVEN.CONN. U. S. A. / PATENT PENDING” on wide upper tang. This was one of several experimental rifles made for proposed government use. It has a Model 1903A1 front band and bayonet lug, a full groove 1903 or Garand stock band and a flat checkered metal buttplate. Stock is cut for a rear swing swivel but one has never been installed; there are no screw holes. Magazine appears to be modified from the production BAR magazine. Separate cocking lever, which rides in a groove on right side of receiver, moves some distance to the rear before lowering the rear end of bolt which retreats into the extra wide upper tang. Checkered magazine release is on right side of triggerguard, just in front of the sliding, serrated safety. There is a large groove in the bottom of the triggerguard, below the safety, apparently for lightening purposes. There is evidence on the wood that different configurations have been tried. A plug, 1-1/2” long is installed in front of the magazine well. No front or rear sight has been installed. Cuts that were made show a pivoting rear sight and a spine fixed front sight. Upper hand guard runs from receiver to front band in one piece. Stock clamp has a wide spacing between the ears. There is also no extractor installed. Top of breechblock is cut for one but face of breech is not. CONDITION: Excellent with overall gray patina on the never finished metal surfaces. Wood shows no use but has a few minor scratches and chips. 4-30739 FS190 (30,000-50,000)
