*RARE DOCUMENTED WINCHESTER MODEL 21 PIGEON GRADE WITH CASE. SN W32254. Cal. 20 ga. 26″ bbls, matted tapered concave rib with dual ivory sighting beads, 2-3/4″ chambers, WS1 / WS2 chokes, gold single selective trigger & ejectors. Rib is engraved Custom Built By Winchester, top of left bbl marked “MODEL 21 WINCHESTER 20 GA 2-3/4″ CHAM./MADE IN NEW HAVEN CONN.U.S.A.”. There is 2-3/4″ wedge of scroll engraving over each chamber. Receiver is engraved with rare 21-6 style Pigeon grade engraving that is fine foliate arabesque scroll surrounding an oval with a pointing setter on left side and pointer on right side with circle & 2 pheasants on trigger plate, bow of trigger guard, has circle with a bust of a setters head. Mounted with dark exhibition grade walnut with “A” styled checkered straight grip, leather covered pad, gold initial oval and “A” style, checkered, beavertail forend with ebony insert tip. According to production numbers in Ned Schwing book “Winchesters Finest Model 21″ Pigeon grade production from 1969-1982, was a total of 22 with 6 being 20 ga. and only 7 of the total production had solid ribs, and stating that from a grade designation the Pigeon grade is the rarest of all custom guns. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter identifying this gun as Pigeon grade 20ga., 26″ bbls, choke WS1 / WS2, dual ivory sighting beads, matted rib, automatic ejectors, straight stock, checkering to extend over top of grip, hand rubbed oil finish, skeet style beavertail with black tip, Winchester recoil pad, leather covered style #2, pitch 1-1/4″, pull 14-1/2″, pull at heel 14-5/8″, pull at toe 14-7/8″, drop at heel 2-3/8″, drop at comb 1-1/2″, 3/8″ cast off at heel, 3/8” cast off at toe, 21-6 engraved, rib panel Custom Built By Winchester, gold plated trigger, gold oval engraved JGS, gun case – zipper canvas cover embossed JGS, order No. 34-497-A16941A, started inspection Nov. 28, 1978, completed Jan. 31, 1979. This letter fully identifies gun as found. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbls retain 97-98% orig blue, minor muzzle wear, some minor rub marks from forend, and a few minor light handling marks. Receiver has 90-95% orig blue, with some thinning across bottom & worn to bright on edges of bottom. Stock is sound with a few minor light scratches and retains most of its fine hand rubbed oil finish. Leather cover pad is fine with minor amount of scuffing on edges. Beavertail forend is sound with chips on each side at the highest rear point. Mechanics are crisp with strong ejectors & nice shiny bores. Leather case is fine with minor scuffing to outer canvas cover. 4-35036 BDT121 (25,000-35,000)
