TOWER BERDAN CONVERSION RIFLE. SN 235. 577 Cal. 36” rnd bbl. Marked “1861 / TOWER” on the lockplate in front of the hammer. There is a crown at the tail of the lockplate. Birmingham proof marks are stamped on the left side of the bbl and “PATENTED / FED. 27. 1866” on the left flat of the stock. This conversion is almost exactly like the American Allin second model conversion made at Springfield with the new hinge fastened to the top of the bbl. Only a few of these were made before the Snider was adopted. CONDITION: 50% blue mixed with brown patina on the bbl. Faint traces of casehardening pattern on the lockplate. Mostly brown patina elsewhere. Stock shows normal use. Mechanically fine. Wm. Hancock Collection 4-58561 FS683 (2,000-3-000)
