PRUSSIAN CHARLES DALY TOP LEVER HAMMER GUN. SN 1332. Cal. 10 Ga. 3″ Chambers. 30″ Three Stripe Damascus dovetailed barrels have wide concave game rib with doll’s head extension, engraved “Charles Daly Fine Damascus Barrels”. Bbl flats have SN, and bottoms of bbls show crowned crossed pistol proofs. Case hardened action has nicely filed fences, and SN on water table. Bar locks have well detailed rebounding high spur hammers. Action, locks, and hammers are engraved with about 30% coverage of finely executed shaded Germanic scroll. “Charles Daly” is in scrolled riband on each lockplate. Trigger guard has SN on tang. Lightly fiddle figured European walnut semi-pistol grip buttstock measures 14-1/4″ over 1/2″ thick checkered horn buttplate. Checkering is at 22 LPI. There is a vacant silver oval on toe line. Matching splinter forend has horn tip and Deeley fastener. Bore diameter: left -.763, right -.762. Bore restrictions: left -.020, right -.020. Wall thickness: left -.032, right -.035. Drop at heel: 3-3/8″, drop at comb: 1-7/8″. Weight: 9 lbs. 11 oz, LOP 14-1/4″. CONDITION: Very good. Bbls retain 50-60% original bold Damascus pattern. Action and lockplates have traces of case color in protected areas, and are mostly silver gray. Wood is dark and has remnants of what appears to be original finish, but is considerably worn from handling and use. There is 1-1/2″ crack at bottom rear of forend in front of iron. Checkering is worn almost smooth in some areas. Action is slightly loose, and off face, and could use a simple re-joint before firing. Bores are bright and shiny but with some scattered light frosting, and some longitudinal striations in right bbl. Locks are crisp. A fine quality old gun that needs a bit of attention, and a good cleaning. 4-39879 MGM15 (1,500-3,000)
