*SPECTACULAR ENGRAVED MARLIN MODEL 24 PUMP ACTION HAMMER SHOTGUN 2-BARREL SET. Cal. 12 ga. SN 104128. Very beautiful & durable old Marlin with 32” plain, FULL choke bbl, with sgl brass bead and 26” plain IMP-CYL choked bbl. Mounted with very highly figured, flame grain, checkered American walnut with B-style checkering on small rnd forearm & pistol grip stock with serpentine grip, 13-1/2” over its orig serrated Marlin hard rubber buttplate. The 26” bbl apparently was not ordered with deluxe forearm and has the standard small ribbed rnd forearm. Receiver is beautifully engraved by Conrad Ulrich in Style C patterns consisting of the large vignette of four flying ducks in a marsh scene on left side and two flying pigeons on side of bolt on right side with foliate arabesque patterns surrounding. Top of receiver is matted and there is a spray of leaves around serial number with a fine border around top tang and a small engraving pattern behind hammer slot. This model, according to Brophy in his book Marlin Firearms, was manufactured only from 1908-1915 with some deliveries into 1917, probably assembled from leftover parts. CONDITION: Fine. 32” bbl retains most of a fine restored finish with a few spots of fine pitting. Magazine tube retains about 50-60% orig blue, strong above forearm, thinning to blue gray below forearm. Receiver retains about 75% orig blue, somewhat thinned on sides & top and blue/gray on bottom. The 26” bbl retains about 95% strong orig blue and forearm about 75% orig varnish with bright shiny bore. The area over serial number has some touch-up blue indicating a possible alteration. Wood is sound with minor nicks & scratches and retains most of its orig varnish finish. Mechanics are fine, bright shiny bore. 4-30643 JR282 (5,500-7,500)
