*LOT OF 2 EARLY A.H. FOX GRADED SIDE BY SIDE SHOTGUNS, INCL. B GRADE & A GRADE. SN 13760 & 14436. 1) Cal. 12 ga. 32″ Krupp Fluid Steel bbls with tapered, matted, concave rib with sgl brass sighting bead, 2-3/4″ chambers, choked FULL / FULL, dbl triggers & extractors. Bbls are marked in chamber area on right “Krupp Fluid Steel Made By” and on left “A. H. Fox Gun Co. Phila. PA.”. Each bbl has slight engraving at chamber. This early B-grade receiver is engraved “Ansley H. Fox” on each side, with wavy double line border engraving & some loose moderate scroll, with feeding quail on left & strutting snipe on right. Mounted with nicely figured “streaky” walnut with checkered side panels and checkered pistol grip with grip cap. LOP 14-1/4″ over solid red 1″ Silvers style pad, checkered splinter forend. Bore diameter: left -.725, right -.726. Bore restrictions: left -.035, right -.035. Wall thickness: left -.036, right -.035. Drop at heel: 2″, drop at comb: 1-3/8″. Weight: 7 lbs. 12 oz. Accompanying by a Roe S. Clark letter identifying this gun as a “B” grade with 32″ bbls, choked FULL / FULL, with full pistol grip stock, with drop of 1-5/16″ x 2″. Gun weighs 7 lbs. 12 oz. Note on tag states: “Silvers recoil pad, trigger pull 4 lbs., non-automatic safety, shipped March 23, 1909, to F. W. Hall, no address listed”. 2) Cal. 12 ga. 30″ Krupp Fluid Steel bbls with tapered, matted, concave rib with dual silver sighting beads, 2-3/4″ chambers, choked FULL / FULL, dbl triggers & extractors. Mounted with straight grain walnut, checkered rounded pistol grip, & checkered splinter forend. LOP 13-3/4″ over vented White Line pad. The No. 2 weight bbls are marked in chamber area on right bbl “Krupp Fluid Steel Made By” and left bbl “A. H. Fox Gun Co. Phila. PA.”. Receiver is engraved in the early A-style pattern with Ansley H. Fox on both sides and double wavy-line borders. Circular engraving around hinge pin & a circular moderate scroll around trigger plate screw. There is also a small circular engraved pattern on center bottom of receiver & bow of trigger guard. Bore diameter: left -.727, right -.728. Bore restrictions: left -.034, right -.037. Wall thickness: left -.032, right -.034. Drop at heel: 2-1/2″, drop at comb: 1-1/2″. Weight: 7 lbs. 5 oz. Accompanying this gun is a Roe S. Clark letter identifying it as an A-grade 12 ga with 30″ bbls choked FULL / FULL with a 14-1/8″ LOP drop of 1-1/2″ x 2-5/8″ and weighing 7 lbs. 4 oz. shipped to E. K. Tryon Co. Philadelphia. PROVENANCE: The David Herrmann Collection. CONDITION: 1) Very good. Bbls retain 70-75% orig blue, thinning in areas, wear at the muzzle, a few minor nicks & dings, minor repaired dent 13-1/2″ from muzzle on right bbl. Stock is solid with some darkening near receivers & both tangs, has a nice hand-worn oil finish with some minor nicks & dings. Checkering is somewhat dark & flattened, with a solid hard rubber pistol grip cap and a replacement Silvers pad. Forend is smooth with hand-worn finish and mostly flat checkering. Receiver is a silver gray patina with visible case colors in protected areas. Trigger bow is mostly a silver gray patina mixed with some light brown. Mechanics are crisp with non-automatic safety as mentioned in letter. Bores are bright & shiny with some very minor pitting and the above-mentioned repaired dent in right bbl. 2) Good. Bbls retain 70-75% orig blue mixed with some light brown & silver patina, with wear at muzzle & chamber areas. There are a few minor nicks and scuffs with a very minor dent 5″ from muzzle on left bbl. Receiver is a mixture of medium brown & gray patina. Top lever is still slightly right of center. Wood is solid with numerous nicks, dings & handling marks. Approx. 1/4″ chip on bottom left side at receiver and some minor splinters around top tang. Checkering on both pistol grip area & forend are worn and flat. Finish is a hand-worn patina and stock has some moderate darkening at receiver.
