*LOT OF 2 A. H. FOX STERLINGWORTH SIDE-BY-SIDE SHOTGUNS, ONE WITH SCARCE “PARKER HINGE PIN”. SN 55389 & 109145. 1) Cal. 12 ga. 28″ Sterlingworth Fluid Compressed Steel bbls with tapered, matted, concave rib with sgl brass sighting bead, 2-3/4″ chambers, choked MOD / FULL, dbl triggers & extractors. The rare receiver has the usual “Sterlingworth” marked on each side with zig zag border engraving, but it is the scarce recessed hinge pin model reminiscent of the Parker. Mounted with semi-fancy walnut, checkered pistol grip with serrated hard rubber grip cap, brown vented White Line pad & standard checkered splinter forend. Bore diameter: left -.724, right -.724. Bore restrictions: left -.035, right -.012. Wall thickness: left -.029, right -.028. Drop at heel: 2-1/8″, drop at comb: 1-3/8″. Weight: 6 lbs. 14 oz. LOP 14″. 2) Cal. 12 ga. 30″ Sterlingworth Fluid Compressed Steel bbls with tapered, matted, concave rib with sgl silver sighting bead, 2-3/4″ chambers, choked MOD / FULL, with dbl triggers & extractors. Receiver is engraved “Sterlingworth” on both sides & the standard zig zag border. Mounted with straight grain walnut with checkered pistol grip & hard rubber grip cap, serrated hard rubber butt plate, and checkered splinter forend. Bbl markings at chambers are on right “Sterlingworth Fluid Compressed Steel” and on left “Made By A. H. Fox Gun Co. Phila. PA. U.S.A.”. Bore diameter: left -.731, right -.731. Bore restrictions: left -.042, right -.023. Wall thickness: left -.034, right -.031. Drop at heel: 2-7/8″, drop at comb: 1-3/4″. Weight: 7 lbs. 6 oz. LOP 14-1/8″. Accompanying this gun is a Roe S. Clark letter identifying it as 12 ga Sterlingworth “Standard”, shipped July 20, 1927, to Montgomery Ward & Co., no address given. The term “Standard” indicates the bbls are 30″ & choked FULL / FULL. PROVENANCE: The David Herrmann Collection. CONDITION: 1) Very fine. Bbls retain 90% of orig blue with some thinning at muzzle & chamber area, a few light nicks & dings and a couple areas of minor oxidation. Receiver retains 70-75% strong orig case colors with balance a mixture of silver & brown patina. Trigger guard has orig blue on bow, thinning at edges, & worn to a silver patina in grip area. Stocks are solid with a minor chip behind top tang with only a few minor nicks & dings, and a very light coat of added finish. Forend is sound & has similar light coat of added finish. Gun is tight, mechanics are crisp, bores are shiny with one slight pit in left bbl. 2) Good. Bbls are a blue gray & silvery patina, showing evidence of some light cleaning in the past. Receiver is mostly a brown patina & silver hardening color in protected areas. Stock is sound with a minor chip behind top tang and carries a very nice restored finish & repointed checkering. Forend likewise is solid with minor crack between checkering & forend iron and has same restored finish & repointed checkering. Mechanics are good, gun is very tight, with shiny bores, and would be an excellent working gun. 4-35254, 4-35255 BDT9 (2,000-3,000)
