MILLER CONVERSION MODEL 1861 MUSKET. Cal. 58 RF. SN 1404. 39” rnd bbl. Marked “eagle / U.S. / PARKERS’ SNOW & CO. / MERIDEN.CONN.” in front of hammer and “1863” at tail of lockplate. Breechblock is marked “W.H.& G.W. MILLER / PATENT MAY 23. 1865 / MERIDEN MAN’FG. CO. / MERIDEN. CONN.”. No cartouche is visible. Only 2,000 of these were made, mostly for issue to state militia companies, but only 45 issued to the state of New York and 50 to the state of Maryland can be verified. Breechblock latch spring and screw are missing. CONDITION: Smooth gray patina overall. Scattered light pitting. Stock has normal handling marks. Mechanically needs parts. Firing pin is frozen. Wm.
