IVES GAUGE 1, FIRST SERIES #40 PASSENGER SET. Circa 1906, this is one of the top ten, early American train sets ever made. This highly sought after antique set consists of an Ives First Series #40 cast iron locomotive with green hand painted wheels, striping on roof, nickeled sand domes, bell, smoke stack, headlight, handrails, and four nickeled bands that wrap around the boiler. Locomotive is clockwork with reverse lever and brake. It is accompanied by a #40 tin tender and has a maroon tint and a nicely lithographed finish. Also a #72 San Francisco Pullman and a #71 St. Louis combine car with exotic lithographed sides and hand painted black roofs with silver and red clerestories. Both cars read “Twentieth Century Limited Express” along the top on two sides. It would be extremely difficult to find a better example. CONDITION: Loco is all original and in near excellent condition. Tender does have some chipping and small scratches, but is in overall very good plus original condition. Both cars show small chips and minor scratches, but overall in near excellent original condition. Entire set has matching patina. 1-9393 (14,000-18,000)
