GEORGE ARTHUR HAYS (American, 1854-1945) “MOONLIGHT ON THE FARMSTEAD”. Large oil on canvas nocturnal scene shows a bright star shining in a deep blue sky over a herd of fifteen cows, mostly of which are laying down with a few standing. Beyond the herd is the farmhouse with two lit windows, smoke rising from the chimney with an adjacent large barn. Large trees flank the scene. Signed lower left “G A Hays 87”. Housed in a fine reproduction carved and gilt wide wood frame with gilt wood artist and title plaque. On reverse the artist has inscribed the title with “My Masterpiece GA Hays 36″. SIZE: 34″ x 44”. CONDITION: The edge with strip lining and light wax relining, some inpainting. Very good. 9-98838 (6,000-8,000)
