*CUSTOM SAVAGE MODEL 99 TAKEDOWN LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 250-3000. SN 188012. Appears to be an early EG Model that has had some light customizing done. It has 22” tapered rnd bbl with Germanic style, German silver ramp front sight with the rear seat having been skillfully filled. It has a Lyman windage, locking tang sight, and left side of receiver has a very unusual scope block with the rear scope base stud in the tang of the tang sight. Mounted with very nicely figured, slab sawed, checkered American walnut with schnable tip forearm & pistol grip stock with raised side panels & perch belly butt with serrated Savage buttplate. Accompanied by a custom plywood, green felt lined case, compartmented in bottom for the stocked receiver & bbl with a compartment under the stocked receiver, apparently to hold cleaning supplies. There is also a triangular compartment which contains an extremely well-made, heavy leather, green felt lined, leather case, almost undoubtedly built in Germany along with the wooden case. Leather case contains a Berth & Neumann 4-1/2X scope with 3-post reticle that mounts on the scope bases on the receiver. It seems likely that a U.S. military man had the work done on the rifle and the cases made while stationed in Germany. CONDITION: Rifle retains most of its custom finish, slightly thinned over forearm area & bottom of receiver. Stock has a crack back of top tang, otherwise wood is sound with handling & use marks. Forearm is a dark, hand worn patina with a curious brass screw in the tip. Buttstock retains most of a fine custom finish. Mechanics are fine, strong bright bore, slightly frosty in the grooves. Scope is fine with crisp optics. The wood & leather cases are fine with heavy soil & wear in the wood case. 4-30565 JR340 (2,000-3,000)
