SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1888 TRAPDOOR RIFLE. Cal. 45-70. SN 509973. Standard rifle with 32 1/2” bbl, square base front sight and Buffington rear sight. It has a 1-pc stock with 2 bands and a sliding ramrod bayonet. The stock has a 1890 dated cartouche and is stamped on the left side, behind the tang and above the buttplate tang, “N.G.P.” The breechblock is hand stamped “A.F.SOLBRIG” and the buttplate tang has a unit mark. CONDITION: Good to very good,. Metal retains a silvery brown patina with the lockplate and hammer a dark blue black. Wood is sound and retains hand rubbed patina with usual nicks, scratches and dings. Bright shiny bore with scattered pitting. 4-52336 JR133 (400-700)
