*WONDERFUL A. H. FOX CE GRADE SIDE-BY-SIDE SHOTGUN. SN 200388. Cal. 20 ga. 26″ Krupp Fluid Steel bbls with tapered, matted, concave rib with sgl silver sighting bead, 2-1/2″ chambers, choked MOD / FULL, dbl triggers & ejectors. Chambers have a 1-1/2″ wedge scroll engraving. Right bbl is marked “KRUPP FLUID STEEL MADE BY” and on left “A. H. FOX GUN CO. PHILA. PA.”. The C grade receiver is engraved with scroll surrounding an oval with “Ansley H. Fox” & 2 quail on left and “Ansley H. Fox” & 2 woodcock on right. Trigger plate is engraved with a circular scroll pattern & bottom of receiver a circle with a pointing setter with split rail fence in background. Mounted in nicely figured “streaky” walnut with checkered side panels, checkered rounded pistol grip & leather-faced Noshoc pad. Checkered splinter forend with ebony insert tip & engraved ejector button. Bore diameter: left -.615, right -.615. Bore restrictions: left -.024, right -.014. Wall thickness: left -.030, right -.030. Drop at heel: 2-3/4″, drop at comb: 1-5/8″. Weight: 6 lbs. 1 oz. LOP 14-1/2″. Accompanying with a Roe S. Clark letter identifying it as a CE 20 ga. with 26″ bbls, choked MOD / FULL. Stock with LOP 13-7/8″, drop at heel 3-3/4″, & weight of 5 lbs. 14 oz. Shipped to H. C. Reed Corp., Oct. 28, 1915. It is this catalogers opinion that the 3-3/4″ drop at heel is in error. PROVENANCE: The David Herrmann Collection. CONDITION: Fine. Bbls retain 95% orig blue with slight muzzle wear & the usual light hunting scratches. Receiver has visible case color, but is mostly a mellowing silver gray patina. Trigger bow is turning a brown/blue patina & worn to a silver/brown in the grip area. Stock is sound with a tiny hairline crack on left side at receiver, a tiny chip at rear of top tang and a hairline crack just to the right. Finish is a fine smooth hand-rub finish with a few minor nicks & hunting scratches. There is a silver oval in toe line of stock engraved with “S.M.B. Jr.”. Forend is solid with a minor amount of worn finish in rear portion and 2 hairline cracks between forend iron & checkering. Mechanics are fine with non-automatic safety & strong ejectors.
