*DELUXE ENGRAVED SAVAGE MODEL 1899 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 303 Savage. SN 13.625. Scarce early 99 with 26” tapered oct bbl, replacement ivory bead front sight, Lyman 6A 2-leaf folding rear sight and an early Savage folding tang sight. Mounted with center crotch cut, flame grain, checkered American walnut with extensively checkered semi-schnable tip forearm and straight stock with crescent buttplate. Receiver is lightly engraved with foliate arabesque panels on each side and the inscription “E.A. DUNLOP” with foliate arabesque patterns on left top edge. There is a spray of leaves and border around top of receiver ring. Accompanied by a copy of a Savage Arms Corporation Historian letter fully identifying this rifle as factory engraved with “A” engraving & checkering. It was shipped Sept. 5, 1900 to Dunlop & Co., no address listed. CONDITION: Fine. Bbl retains 93-95% strong orig blue with some very fine scattered light surface discoloration. Receiver has been cleaned to bare metal with some fine surface discoloration on bottom. Lever retains about 50% faded case colors, mostly on sides with balance turned silver to gray. Buttplate is bare metal. Wood is sound with light handling & use marks and retains about 90% orig finish. Mechanics are crisp, strong bright bore with a few spots of light pitting. 4-30279 JR60 (3,500-5,000)
