*WONDERFUL A. H. FOX CE GRADE SIDE-BY-SIDE SHOTGUN. SN 301929. Cal. 16 ga. 26″ Chromox Fluid Steel bbls with tapered, matted, concave rib with sgl silver sighting bead, 2-1/2″ chambers, choked CYL / MOD with dbl triggers & ejectors. Bbl markings at chambers are on right “CHROMOX FLUID COMPRESSED STEEL” and on left “Made By A. H. Fox Gun Co. Phila. PA. U.S.A.”. Each chamber has 1-1/2″ wedge of scroll engraving. The standard C engraved receiver has a fine foliate scroll surrounding an oval with “Ansley H. Fox” & two quail on left side and “Ansley H. Fox” & two woodcock on right, with a burst of scroll on trigger plate & a circle with a pointing setter in field motif on bottom. Mounted in dark “streaky” walnut with checkered side panels & checkered, rounded pistol grip and leather-faced Silvers style pad. Splinter forend with checkering & ebony tip insert. Bore diameter: left -.661, right -.661. Bore restrictions: left -.016, right -.006. Wall thickness: left -.029, right -.028. Drop at heel: 2-1/4″, drop at comb: 1-1/2″. Weight: 5 lbs. 13 oz. LOP 14-3/8″. Accompanied by a Roe S. Clark letter identifying this gun as a CE 16 ga. with 26″ bbls, choked CYL / MOD, half pistol grip stock, with 14-1/4″ pull and drop at heel of 3-1/4″. The gun weighs 5 lbs. 13 oz. with No. 4 weight bbls. Gun was shipped Dec. 11, 1925, to Belknap Hardware Co. of Lanesville (no state). It is this catalogers opinion that the 3-1/4″ drop at the heel is in error. PROVENANCE: The David Herrmann Collection. CONDITION: Very fine. No. 4 weight bbls retain 85-90% orig blue with wear at muzzle & some thinning from carry wear near center of forend, and the usual minor nicks & scratches. Receiver retains 70-75% bright orig case colors, thinned across bottom to a silvery patina. Trigger guard retains 80% orig blue with thinning to silver in the grip area. Stock is sound with the usual minor hunting nicks & scrapes, with very good checkering; Silvers pad shows to be a little squashed at the heel; finish is of a pleasing hand-worn patina. Forend has a minor hairline crack at center bottom approx. 1″ long, checkering is good, finish is a hand-worn patina. Mechanics are good with strong ejectors. Bores are shiny.
