*EXTREMELY FINE GALEAZZI ENGRAVED ABBIATICO AND SALVINELLI SIDELOCK EJECTOR GAME GUN WITH CASE. SN 245. Cal. 20 Ga. 3″ Chambers. Carefully struck 27″ chopper lump barrels with plain concave game rib, are engraved “Abbiatico & Salvinelli” on top of left bbl. Bbl flats are stamped “A & S”, “Abbiatico & Salvinelli”, SN, Italian proofs for 3″ chambers, and “Made in Italy”. Full sidelock coin finished action has makers names stamped on water table along with proofs and SN, and features non-automatic safety (“S” engraved), bushed strikers, and double triggers with front trigger articulated. Action is very finely engraved with well executed small scroll with larger acanthus accents, as background for vignettes of hunting dogs and game birds. Bottom of action depicts proud pointer retrieving woodcock with trees in background. This motif is illustrated in MODERN FIREARM ENGRAVINGS by Mario Abbiatico on page 133, and also on plate XXIV, p. 154. Locks have realistically cut Kell inspired, borderless scenes which continue onto action. Left side depicts a pair of pointers flushing cock pheasant in finely detailed woodland background. Right side shows a pair of setters flushing a pair of quail from hillside into valley below. This work is by noted engraver F. Galeazzi whose signature appears on lower left of scene on left side, and below quail on right. Numerous other examples of his very fine work are illustrated in the above mentioned reference. Top lever, fences, top tang, and single beaded trigger guard have matching small scroll and larger acanthus. SN is on trigger guard tang. Very finely marbled and nicely stump figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14-5/8″ over finely checkered wood butt, and features drop points, diamond grip, and 32 LPI meticulously executed point pattern checkering with line border. Matching long splinter forend has Anson release, and inlaid gold A & S crowned shield with oak wreath device in uncheckered central diamond. Bore diameter: left -.627, right -.627. Bore restrictions: left -.018, right -.005. Wall thickness: left -.028, right -.033. Drop at heel: 2-9/16″, drop at comb: 1-3/8″. Weight: 6 lbs. 1/2 oz, LOP 14-5/8″. Tan leather case with stitched leather corners is lined in scarlet velvet with leather A & S label, and contains pair of snap caps, an A & S marked oil bottle, and the key. CONDITION: Excellent. Bbls retain nearly all of their fine lustrous blue, with a few very minor marks from handling. Action retains nearly all its coin finish. Wood retains nearly all of its rubbed oil finish with a few minor marks. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Ejectors are in time. Bores are excellent. Case leather shows a few scuffs and compressions especially on corners. Straps and handle are good. Interior cloth is excellent, with a few areas of compression from contact with gun. A & S produce fewer than 100 of these beautifully crafted guns a year. 4-40230 MGM14 (22,500-27,500)
