*FABULOUS ABBIATICO & SALVINELLI FOUR BARREL (QUATTRO CANNE) HAMMER/HAMMERLESS SINGLE TRIGGER GUN W/CASE. SN 266. Cal. 28 Ga. A fine example of this legendary gun. The original intention of producing this model was as a crowd pleaser for exhibition purposes. The gun garnered so much interest that in 1979 they produced a limited run of 15 of them, and a second run of 15 in 1983. 27-1/2″ Chopper lump barrels have narrow concave game rib with crossbolted doll’s head extension. Top left bbl is marked “Abbiatico & Salvinelli”. Bbl flats are stamped with Italian nitro proofs for 1979, “A & S”, and “Abbiatico Salvinelli”. Bottom of rear lump is stamped with “Dante Mario” and “Remo Tony”. Intricately sculpted action with tall standing breech and non-automatic safety (“S” inlaid in gold), has four locks. On initial examination it appears to be a very tall hammer gun with two back action rebounding locks. These locks have very nicely filed serpentine hammers which fire the top two bbls. Bottom 2 bbls are fired by Anson/ Deeley type internal hammers. Amazingly, all four bbls are fired by a single non-selective trigger which fires in the order of top right, top left, bottom right, bottom left. Action, lockplates, and hammers are engraved with about 60% coverage exceptionally well cut fine shaded scroll, with rose bouquet highlights. Both sides of action bar are inlaid in gold with “Abbiatico & Salvinelli”. Area under top lever is inlaid in gold with “3/15”, indicating that this is no. 3 of a run of 15 guns. Matching scroll engraved trigger guard has SN inlaid in gold on tang. A & S house engravers, “Bruno & Marco” signatures are on trigger plate. Trigger itself is decoratively filed. Finely marbled and slightly figured stump European walnut pistol grip buttstock measures 14-3/8″ over brown pad, and features drop points as well as 32 LPI checkering with line border. Matching splinter forend has Anson release. “A & S” gold shield device is inletted into open central diamond in forend checkering pattern. Bore diameter: Top left -.560, Top right -.560. Bottom left -.560, bottom right -.561. Bore restrictions: Top left -.014, Top right -.000. bottom left -.024, bottom right -.019. Minimum wall thickness: Top left -.026, Top right -.017. bottom left -.010, bottom right -.011. Drop at heel: 1-3/4″, drop at comb: 1-1/2″. Weight: 8 lbs. 9.3 oz, LOP 14-3/8″. Brown leather case with stitched leather corners with red interior and tan leather label embossed “A & S” . Accessories include A & S marked round oil bottle, striker case, and four snap caps, along with 3 turnscrews, some cleaning brushes, and the key. CONDITION: Excellent. Bbls retain nearly all of their fine satin blue, with some freckling from cleaned oxidation on top of top left bbl. Action retains nearly all of its coin finish, but darkened slightly on an area on rear of right lockplate. Stocks retain nearly all of their original finish, with a few minor compressions and marks. Trigger functions fine. Gun shows slight evidence of being fired. Case is very fine with a number of marks and rubs on exterior leather. Interior cloth shows compressions and some soiling from contact with gun. Oil bottle, snap caps, and striker case show tarnishing, and discoloration. Turnscrews appear to be as new, as they are still wrapped in their paper packaging. This fine gun balances and handles amazingly well. 4-40694 MGM91 (37,500-57,500)
