*RARE A.H. FOX XE GRADE 32″ SIDE-BY-SIDE SHOTGUN. SN 21767. Cal. 12 ga. 32″ Krupp Fluid Steel bbls with tapered, matted, concave rib with dual ivory sighting beads, chambers lengthened to 3″, choked FULL / FULL, sgl selective trigger & ejectors. Top of right bbl marked “KRUPP FLUID STEEL MADE BY” and left bbl “A. H. Fox Gun Co. Phila. PA.”. Chambers have 1-3/4″ wedge of relief-engraved oak leaf & vine scroll. The X grade receiver is engraved with bold oak leaf pattern; oval on left side with “Ansley H. Fox” & 2 flying ducks, and 2 flying quail on right. Oval on bottom has drooped-head fox in wooded scene. Trigger plate & bow of trigger guard are in bold oak leaf scroll. Mounted with nicely figured walnut, checkered side panels, checkered straight grip, Hawkins recoil pad & full-checkered later-style beavertail forend. Factory records indicate the gun was shipped to Abercrombie & Fitch on Dec. 29, 1915 as a 32″ XE choked Full/Full and fitted with a straight hand stock and recoil pad. Bore diameter: left -.724, right -.724. Bore restrictions: left -.033, right -.035. Wall thickness: left -.033, right -.032. Drop at heel: 2″, drop at comb: 1-1/2″. Weight: 7 lbs. 14 oz. LOP 14-1/8″. CONDITION: Extremely fine from a factory quality restoration, possibly Savage Arms. Bbls retain 98-99% blue with slight rub mark from forend & a few minor light nicks & scratches. Receiver & trigger guard retain virtually all of their dark vibrant case colors. Stock is sound with minor fine handling marks & a couple of dried grain cracks, retaining most of its oil finish. There is a reinforcing dowel hidden in the checkering of the side panels bolstering a hairline crack running from receiver to border of checkering on left side panel. Forend is sound with good checkering & 1 or 2 small dents, retaining most of its finish. Mechanics are crisp with non-automatic safety, strong ejectors & bright shiny bores. 4-35354 BDT192 (7,000-10,000)
