WILLIAM HEMSLEY (British, 1819-1893) “CUP AND BALL”. Oil on wood panel scene shows a boy seated on a wood stool holding a stick with cup on top having a tethered ball hanging. The boy looks down on it, concentrating and wears a red cap. A girl is standing beside, smiling and looking on. A younger girl is seated also looking on. Housed in what appears to be its original frame which is “as is” and has an old artist tag with title “Cup and Ball William Hemsley, R.B.A.”. Back of the panel has period inscription with title and artist’s name. SIZE: 8-1/4” x 6-1/4. CONDITION: The wood panel has 1/4” cut on bottom which has been reglued. Needs cleaning, otherwise very good. 9-28403 (1000-1500)
