TRANSITIONAL CARVED MAHOGANY SETTEE. Mid-19th century. The pierced carved foliate crest with scrolling leaftips above the serpentine rail joined to scrolled supports centering the shaped padded backrest, joined to the rectangular upholstered seat with serpentine figured rail applied with scrolling leaftips, cartouches, and flowerheads, raised on frontal cabriole legs with scrolled volutes raised on casters. SIZE: 35-1/2″ h. of back x 61″ l. PROVENANCE: From an extensive private Gulf Coast collection. CONDITION: With old cleaned surfaces and medium brown finish. Minimal veneer losses along crest rail, old professional strengthening to back legs. Minor old and chips and losses to edges of carvings, well within parameters of age to piece. 9-93511 (500-800)
