*OUTSTANDING A. H. FOX DE GRADE SIDE-BY-SIDE SHOTGUN. SN 300711. Cal. 16 ga. 28″ Krupp Fluid Steel bbls with tapered, matted, concave rib with sgl silver sighting bead, 2-1/2″ chambers, MOD / FULL chokes, sgl trigger & ejectors. Bbl chamber areas have 2″ wedge of bold foliate scroll with right bbl marked “Krupp Fluid Steel Made By” and left “A. H. Fox Gun Co. Phila. PA.”. This rebated frame is engraved in a wonderful bold D grade pattern with an oval with flying ducks, bold leaf-and-vine with shaded background & flowing ribbon with “Ansley H. Fox” on left side, oval with fleeing quail, bold leaf-and-vine with shaded background & flowing ribbon with “Ansley H. Fox” on right. The animal vignette on bottom of receiver is 2 escaping ducks being watched by a standing fox. Remainder of receiver & trigger guard is bold leaf-and-vine design with shaded backgrounds. Trigger guard has monogram “H.H.H.” in gold. Mounted with highly figured dark walnut with checkered side panels, elaborate checkered straight grip & serrated hard rubber butt plate. Splinter forend with elaborate checkering pattern & Schnable ebony tip insert. Bore diameter: left -.663, right -.662. Bore restrictions: left -.031, right -.016. Wall thickness: left -.025, right -.020. Drop at heel: 2-1/2″, drop at comb: 1-5/8″. Weight: 5 lbs. 14 oz. LOP 13″. Accompanied by Roe S. Clark letter identifying gun as DE grade 16 ga. with 28″ bbls, choked MOD / FULL, with straight grip stock, pull of 13″, drop at comb: 1-5/8″, & drop at heel 2-1/2″; gun weighs 6 lbs. & has sgl trigger in rear position. Notes on card state “Monogram (H.H.H.) in gold on trigger guard”. Other notes state “Dark curly stock, finely checkered, (see Mr. Roll on checkering), well balanced, perfect in all respects”. Gun shipped to Von, Lengerken & Antoine, July 28, 1916. Information from consignor is that the “H.H.H.” is believed to be for “Hermann H. Heiser”, founder of the Heiser Leather Co. of Denver. PROVENANCE: The David Herrmann Collection. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbls retain 95% orig blue with only some very minor scuffing & a couple of tiny dings along rib. Receiver has good visible case colors in protected areas with balance a silver hardening patina color. Trigger guard has 50% orig blue, silvered at edges, & wear to silver patina in tang area. Stock is sound with a few minor handling nicks & dings, and a very fine hand-rubbed finish with good checkering except for small bruise in side panel on right side. Forend is sound with only a few minor nicks, smooth hand-worn finish with good checkering, and Schnable ebony insert tip. Gun is extremely tight and seen only a little use, with top lever off to the right. Mechanics are crisp, selector on sgl trigger works, ejectors are strong, with shiny bores. As an additional note, records indicate there were only 29 D grade 16 ga. guns built in Philadelphia. 4-35250 BDT25 (20,000-25,000)
