JAPANESE SHINTO KATANA. 25 ¾” shinogi zukuri blade, hamon (temper pattern) gunome midare, hada (skin steel) ko-itami (small wood grain). Nakago is signed “BISHU OSAFUNE (NO) JU HISASHIGE”. Dated “KYU-TOKU NI NEN MASA GATSU HI”. Date meaning unclear, ubu nakago with one mekugi ana. SIZE: 38 ¾” long. MOUNTS: Tsuka with same (rayskin) and iron fuchi having shakudo floral decorations. Soten school iron tsuba depicting poets in the forest with waterfall with gold highlights. CONDITION: Tsuka ito menuki and kashira are missing, tsuba needs cleaning, black lacquered saya (scabbard) incised with stylized dragons with kurigata and tsunakuchi (saya hook) present. Half of the koiguchi is missing, balance of saya good overall with some minor nicks and chips. 4-53826-4 (2,250-2,750).
