SCARCE ENGRAVED SPENCER PUMP SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 ga. SN 5. Fine early Spencer with 28-1/4″ Damascus bbl choked FULL with large mushroom shaped front bead. Receiver has full coverage, Nimschke style, foliate arabesque style engraving with large rnd vignette of bird dog on left side. Trigger guard & tangs are engraved to match with a small vignette of bird dog on trigger bow. Mounted in nicely figured French walnut with a tiny checkered rnd forearm & rnd knob semi-pistol grip stock, 14″ over a smooth steel buttplate. CONDITION: Bbl retains about 50% thin orig brown, strong on bottom with about 70% Damascus pattern & a few scattered spots of light rust. Magazine tube retains about 75% orig brown, thin on lower half. Receiver retains traces of orig brown being mostly a gray metal patina. Wood is sound with usual handling & use marks. Forearm retains traces of orig finish showing moderate to heavy wear. Buttstock retains about 70% orig varnish, dark & oil stained around grip & shows moderate to heavy wear. Mechanics are fine, strong bore with some shine & moderate pitting. 4-57880 JR453 (1,750-2,750)
