RARE ONE OF A KIND REMINGTON NO. 3 HEPBURN SCHUETZEN MATCH SINGLE SHOT RIFLE. SN 47263. Cal. 38-55. Wonderful No. 3 Hepburn Schuetzen match rifle that resembles the famous underlever Walker Hepburn. It has 32″ oct to rnd heavy weight bbl with windgage spirit level globe front sight, no provision for a rear sight and short range, thick base tang sight with 3″ staff. Top flat of bbl has the Remington Arms Co. Ilion address and is mounted with target scope blocks. Receiver is blued and is mounted with dbl set triggers and a Walker finger rest/trigger guard that is precisely the same as the Walker underlever. Right side of receiver has the usual Hepburn operating lever. Mounted with nicely figured, straight grain American walnut with black insert checkered schnable tip forearm and heavy straight grip Schuetzen buttstock with nickeled steel Schuetzen buttplate. Serial number is found on only one place on the rifle, under the forearm on bottom flat of bbl. Accompanied by a small hand written manila tag which states “REMINGTON HEPBURN / 38-55 EXACTLY LIKE UNDERLEVER / BUT USES SIDE LEVER / CAME FROM REMINGTON / BALLISTIC LAB WHEN SOLD / OUT IN 1955″. Walker Hepburns are the ultimate rarity in Remington single shot collecting which, given the fact that this is probably the only rifle of its type in existence, makes this rifle ultimately desirable. PROVENANCE: David D. Sobel Single Shot Rifle Collection. CONDITION: Extraordinarily fine, as new, may be unfired. Overall retains virtually all of its orig factory finish to both metal & wood with strong dark blue and clean bright varnish. There are a few freckles of rust on buttplate. Mechanics are crisp, brilliant shiny bore. 4-39124 JR26 (9,000-12,000)
