*EXPERIMENTAL SMITH & WESSON REVOLVER. Appears to be in 32-44 or possibly 32 S&W Long. Unfinished with 5” heavy bbl that resembles a triple lock. Built on what appears to be an unfinished 1917 frame that has a Springfield inspection mark inside the crane and the assembly number 79137. Medallion diamond checkered grips with a lanyard loop in the butt. Left side of the grip frame is stamped “E4” under the grip and the number “4” is also stamped on the bottom of the bbl, cylinder is unmarked. Also on the bottom of the bbl is scratched a number “30” and the date “12/26/43”. Chambers are sleeved down to their current size. NSN CONDITION: Fine, as noted, unfinished gray metal color with scattered light pitting on the frame and sideplate. Good grips, bright shiny bore, fine mechanics. Certainly an unusual piece that requires further investigation. 4-48190 JR257 (Anderson Collection) (1,000-3,000)
