SET OF TWO CARVED WOOD CARNIVAL FIGURES. Fabulous larger than life Amazonian female carnival figures in polychrome yellow and green classical Greco-Roman attire. The hollow bodied carvings feature detachable arms with bayonet-type mounts which when in position appear raised in front and probably held some type of flag or banner. Narrow rear carved staves appear to be removable for interior access. Simply magnificent examples of Circa 1880 – 1900 carving, quite likely from the shop of one of the major carousel carvers. SIZE: Approx. 8′ t. CONDITION: Surfaces show various paint and wood chips, rubs and wear to what is certainly older paint, some of which may even be original. The nicely worn and richly patinated surfaces combine to lend even more character and elegance to these unique carvings. Some mild age cracks to upper body and some professional restoration to original wood bases. 1-9191 (10,000-12,000)
