FINE SET OF FOUR CENTENNIAL CHIPPENDALE CARVED MAHOGANY CHAIRS. Last quarter 19th century. Each carved in the Philadelphia style, the serpentine molded crest rail with scrolled ears above the ‘C’- and ‘S’-scrolled pierced splat joined to the balloon rush seat with concave shaped seat rail, carved with an inverted shell, raised on acanthus-carved cabriole legs with scrolled returns, raised on ball-and-claw feet. The armchair with serpentine molded arms terminating in scrolled volute grips on incurved supports. SIZE: 43″ h. of tallest. 19″ h. of seat. PROVENANCE: From an extensive private Gulf Coast collection. CONDITION: In very good condition overall, retaining original finish with good patina. With minor scuffing to finish, no restoration noted. 9-93308 (3,000-4,000)
