*JEFFERY RETAILED WEBLEY AND SCOTT MODEL 700 BOXLOCK EJECTOR GAME GUN WITH EXCEPTIONAL WOOD. SN 133062. Cal. 16 Ga. 2-3/4″ Chambers. 28″ Dovetailed barrels are engraved “Charles Jeffery & Sons. Dorchester” on narrow concave game rib. “Webley & Scott” and “Birmingham” are on tops of bbls. Bbl flats show 1963 Birmingham nitro proofs for 2-3/4″ chambers. “Made in England” is stamped on loop. Case hardened boxlock action features non-automatic safety (“Safe” engraved) and double triggers. Action is engraved with about 50% coverage scroll. “Webley & Scott” is stamped on each side of action. Blued floorplate, trigger guard, and top lever have matching scroll, with SN on trigger guard tang. It is interesting that such a very fine marbled and flame-figured piece of walnut would end up on this rather plain gun. Consignor admits to spending quite a few evenings with Adam Davies, noted ex-Purdey stocker, at a local watering hole, and upon leaving one evening, Adam showed him this stock blank. The consignor couldn’t resist purchasing, and wanting a 16 ga., he found this fine handling little gun for Adam to re-stock. Stock features checkered wood butt, with Purdey bump at heel, and 22 LPI flat top checkering with mullered borders. Matching ejector splinter forend with Anson release, was also stocked by Adam, from the same piece of wood. Bore diameter: left -.657, right -.658. Bore restrictions: left -.010, right -.005. Wall thickness: left -.034, right -.039. Drop at heel: 2-1/8″, drop at comb: 1-1/2″. Stock is slightly cast on. Weight: 5 lbs. 14 oz, LOP 14-3/4″. CONDITION: Excellent, as refurbished. Bbls retain 90-95% London quality re-black, slightly thinning in a few areas, and silvering at muzzles. Action retains 70-80% original case color. Trigger guard is silvering slightly at grip and top lever on thumbpiece. Stocks retain nearly all their fine hand rubbed oil finish, with a few slight marks. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Ejectors are in time. Bores are excellent. 4-40936 MGM142 (5,000-7,000)
