SIR EDWIN HENRY LANDSEER (British, 1802-1873) RETRIEVAL. Oil on canvas scene shows a half portrait of a white and black retriever with recently shot partridge in mouth. Several feathers drop from spread wing near brown field grass. The dog looks up and wears a large collar with ring. Signed lower left “Landseer” and date 18?. Housed in a gilt gesso decorated frame. PROVENANCE: Paul Windorf Collection, Sold at Parke Bernet, NY 1975. SIZE: 19” x 17”. CONDITION: Light craquelure with heavy varnish layer, small chip to left bottom.
