W. W. GREENER “FAR KILLING” TOP LEVER HAMMER HEAVY GAME GUN. SN 23697. Cal. 10 Ga. 2-7/8″ Chambers. 32-1/4″ Stub Twist barrels are engraved “W. W. Greener. 68 Haymarket London. Winner at the London Gun Trials, 1875, 1877, 1878 & 1879.” on raised concave game rib. Rear portion of rib with crossbolt extension is engraved “Patent Treble Wedge Fast” in oval lozenge with patent use “no. 3084” at center. Bottoms of bbls are stamped with Birmingham black powder proofs, Greener elephant logo, and “11B” over “12M” and “Not for Ball”. Top lever action has well filed fences and Greener crossbolt. Water table is stamped with SN, proofs, “W. W. Greener Patent”, and elephant logo. Rebounding bar action locks have Greener’s typically well filed serpentine hammers set in low position, so spurs are below line of sight when gun is cocked. All metal parts are engraved at about 30% coverage of scroll engraving. “W. W. Greener” is on each lockplate. Top lever is engraved in oval “Far Killing Duck Gun” with duck at center. Dense, slightly fiddle figured European walnut semi-pistol grip buttstock measures 14-9/16″ over orig checkered horn buttplate. Borderless point pattern checkering is at 20 LPI. There is a vacant silver oval on toe line. Matching splinter forend has inset horn tip, and Deeley release. Bore diameter: left -.780, right -.781. Bore restrictions: left -.044, right -.044. Wall thickness: left -.046, right -.044. Drop at heel: 3″, drop at comb: 1-3/4″. Weight: 9 lbs. 4 oz, LOP 14-9/16″. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbls retain 70-80% orig brown. Action, lockplates, and hammers retain most of their orig case color. Blue of trigger guard is mostly flaked and worn to silver, as is top lever. Stocks retain most of their orig finish, thinning at grip with a few minor marks from handling and use. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Bores are excellent, bright and shiny. Locks are crisp.
