*JOSEPH BOURNE 28 GA. TOP LEVER HAMMER GUN. SN 41095. Cal. 28 Ga. 2-1/2″ Chambers. 28″ Dovetailed steel barrels are engraved “Joseph Bourne & Son. Birmingham.” on narrow concave game rib. Bbl flats have Birmingham nitro proofs and 1987 London re-proofs for 2-1/2″ chambers. Bottoms of bbls have provisional proofs. SN is on rib in front of loop. Round body top lever action is stamped with proofs and SN on water table. Rebounding back action locks have short rounded serpentine hammers. All metal has about 30% coverage of scroll engraving with geometric border. Lightly streaked and figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14-5/16″ over horn buttplate embossed with relief acanthus scroll, and stag with hind in central oval. Flat top point pattern checkering with mullered borders is at 18 LPI. There is a vacant silver shield on toe line. Matching splinter forend has spring-loaded detent release, and horn tip. Bore diameter: left -.554, right -.556. Bore restrictions: left -.034, right -.000. Wall thickness: left -.036, right -.036. Drop at heel: 2-1/8″, drop at comb: 1-7/16″. Weight: 5 lbs. 4 oz, LOP 14-5/16″. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbls retain virtually all of excellent quality re-black. Action and lockplates retain 20-30% original case color, mostly in protected areas. Trigger guard and top lever retain most of a re-blue. Stocks retain nearly all of a high quality rubbed oil re-finish. Checkering has not been re-cut. Action is tight. Bbls are on face.
