*28 GA. W. J. JEFFERY BOXLOCK GAME GUN. SN 34287. Cal. 28 Ga. 2-3/4″ Chambers. 26″ Dovetailed barrels are engraved “W. J. Jeffery & Co. Ltd. 9. Golden Square. Regent St. London, W. 1.” on narrow, concave game rib. Bbl flats are stamped with Birmingham nitro proofs for 5/8 oz shot, and 1902 London nitro re-proof at 950 bar (70 mm). SN is on splinter. Small sized boxlock case hardened action features non-automatic safety (“Safe” engraved) and double triggers. Action is border engraved with small accents of scroll, and “W. J. Jeffery & Co. Ltd.” is in scrolled riband on each side. Blued floorplate, trigger guard, and top lever have matching engraving. SN is on trigger guard tang. (Consignor states) that this gun was re-stocked by ex-Purdey stocker, Adam Davies. Nicely marbled and figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14-3/4″ over checkered wood butt, and features diamond hand and cleanly cut 24 LPI flat top point pattern checkering with mullered borders. Matching splinter forend has horn tip and spring detent latch. Bore diameter: left -.547, right -.548. Bore restrictions: left -.002, right -.000. Wall thickness: left -.033, right -.037. Drop at heel: 2-1/4″, drop at comb: 1-1/2″ (cast on for left hand shooter). Weight: 4 lbs. 14.7 oz, LOP 14-3/4″. CONDITION: Excellent, as refurbished. Bbls retain 95% lustrous London re-black, thinning in a few spots. Action retains 95% correctly done re-case color, thinning slightly on fences and bottom of action. Floorplate, trigger guard, and top lever retain most of their re-blue, top lever silvering slightly on thumbpiece. Polishing was correctly done, and engraving remains fine. Stocks retain virtually all of their fine rubbed oil finish with a few minor marks and dings from handling and use. Action is tight, bbls are on face. Bores are excellent, bright and shiny.
