19TH CENTURY OOC CIVIL WAR DEPICTING THE EMPTY CHAIR. Painting signed indistinctly Bessie Masterton, June 1884 (?). The grieving widow or mother sits in a chair by the hearth, a letter in her hand. The opposite chair with Union cavalryman’s jacket, hat, and saber, together with a box of letters. Over the fireplace is a portrait of the apparent deceased. SIZE: 15-1/2” wide x 11-1/2” high, (Canvas only). 21-1/2” wide x 17-1/2” high including frame. CONDITION: Gilt gesso frame has a couple of minor losses. Painting is reasonably bright and generally excellent condition. 3-30444 (450-750)
