LOT OF 6 INDIAN TIN TYPES. 1) Tintype with five Indians and several white men. A similar picture is shown in Hassrick’s North American Indian book on page 55. On page 153 is another picture with only two white men and seven Indians shown, which identifies the white man pointing at the headdress of the Indian as Louis Bogy, Commissioner of Indian Affairs, and the Indian to whom he is point as Chekuskuk, Chief of the Fox Indians. It also identifies Chief Keokuk of the Sauk Tribe who is seated in this tin type in the center of the three Indians. These are pictures taken at the 1867 Treaty Meeting, whereby the Indians gave up 157,000 acres along the Mississippi and Missouri River for $26,574 and 750 square miles reservation in Oklahoma. 2) Tintype of seated Plains Indian holding piece pipe. Unidentified. 3) Tintype of seated Indian holding pipe tomahawk and wearing Infantry uniform, possibly Seminole. 4) Tintype entitled “Osage Brave” from Bureau of Ethnology Report page 157. He is wearing a peace medal and some beads over his shoulder. 5) Small tintype of Indian holding trade gun, identified as Two Moons. On card in page from album. 6) Small tintype in frame from album of unidentified Indian brave holding a large knife or sword. CONDITION: 1) Fine with no flakes or chips. 2) Fine. 3) Light chipping on right edge, otherwise fine. 4) Minor chipping around the edges. 5) Fine. 6) Fine. 4-53337 FS499 (800-1,500)
