*RARE & UNUSUAL WINCHESTER HIGH WALL SCHUETZEN RIFLE. SN 107968. Cal. 32-40. Spectacular & unusual high wall with 32″ heavy #2 weight oct bbl with windgage globe front sight, slot blank in rear seat and vernier tang sight with 3″ staff. Top flat of bbl is mounted with target scope blocks. Rifle is mounted with nicely figured, uncheckered American walnut with black insert schnable tip forearm and rare uncheckered, capped pistol grip Schuetzen buttstock without cheekpiece and Helm Schuetzen buttplate. Lever is spur type with Schuetzen dbl set triggers. Left side of lower tang, under the wood, is marked with the assembly number 5431US”. Examination of the buttstock disclosed the assembly number “20323” in the wood, under the buttplate and inside toe of buttplate. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum “yellow sheet” identifying this rifle, as found, in caliber 32-40 with No. 2 weight 32″ oct bbl, Schuetzen set triggers, plain pistol grip with “MRV & Peep” sights, Helm buttplate and Schuetzen stock with no cheekpiece. It was shipped July 7, 1908. There is no logical explanation for the lack of matching assembly numbers in buttstock & buttplate but there is no doubt whatsoever that these are the orig buttstock & buttplate to this rifle. CONDITION: Extremely fine plus. Bbl & receiver retain about 98% strong glossy orig factory blue with only extremely faint sharp edge wear and a few very minor nicks & scratches with one small area of light surface mars on left side of the receiver. Wood is sound with extremely minor, light surface finish mars and overall retains about all of its fine orig factory oil finish. Buttplate retains about 60% flaked orig blue. Mechanics are crisp, brilliant shiny bore. 4-39734 JR329 (8,000-12,000)
