LOT OF A CASED DAGUERREOTYPE AND 3 TINTYPES OF UNION GENERALS. The three tintypes are small and mounted in album pages. They include George Taylor, Gordon Granger and John Rawlins. Rawlins was Grant’s aide during the Civil War and became the Secretary of War in 1869. There is information from a book on him accompanying the lot. The daguerreotype is of General Gillem, but the picture was taken before he became a General. It was taken by G.W. Boynton in December 1858. His cheeks are highlighted with red and his stickpin and watchchain are highlighted in gold. It is cased in a Peck’s Patent “Genuine Union Case” which has a herd of deer on both covers. CONDITION: The daguerreotype is outstanding with bright gilt frame and cloth inside. No wear on the case but a vertical stain on the front, possibly from a rubber band. The tin types are fine. 4-53338 FS500 (500-800)
