*IMPORTANT LAST RECORDED PARKER LIFTER ACTION D GRADE SIDE-BY-SIDE SHOTGUN. SN 151742. Cal. 8 ga. 40″ Damascus steel bbls with tapered, matted concave rib, single brass sighting bead. Top of rib marked “Parker Bros Makers, Meridan Conn. Damascus Steel”. The massive size 6, Grade 3 lifter action frame has a variety of scroll borders with Parker Brothers and a pointing setter on left lockplate and Parker Brothers and a pointing pointer on right with circle and four game birds on bottom, foliate arabesque scroll on hammer sides, across bottom of receiver and bow of trigger guard. Sculpted and engraved fences. Mounted with dark highly figured walnut, dropper points, checkered pistol grip, checkered Parker Brothers hard rubber gripcap, steel skeleton butt, checkered splinter forend with steel tip insert. This rare massive Parker is accompanied with a Parker Collector’s Association letter identifying the gun as being ordered by George R. Humewell of Auburn, Maine, on September 17, 1909 and shipped January 5, 1910 to G.E. Guptill in Auburn, Maine. According to Parker Brothers order book #79 it was a Quality 3 D Grade underlifter hammer 8 gauge. It features Damascus bbls with length of 40″, stock configuration, pistol grip. Chokes were patterned right Full and left Full. The order specified a shield to be engraved “John E. Guptill – Auburn, Me”. According to Parker Brothers order book #79 it’s specifications were LOP 14″, Drop at Comb 1-1/2″, Drop at Heel 2-1/2″, Weight 12 lbs, Price $135. There are additional notes and photocopy of original ledger to show that Hamls has been struck out and lifter action noted. Additional notes indicate this SN is the last lifter action found. There are also some additional notes identifying markings on bbl flats the circle “JG” noting the approval of Mr. Geary, the “6” frame size on bbl lug and “D” on left side and “3” on right side. CONDITION: Fine. Bbls retain a very strong Damascus pattern with a small area of discoloration in rib and a few minor handling marks. The massive frame shows some original case color on watertable and standing breech with the exterior a smooth gray patina mixed with some light brown and crisp clear engraving. Stock is sound with a nearly invisible professionally repaired crack at top of wrist and blank initial shield. Checkering is good with slightly flat points, some nicks and dings and a few minor dents and retains most of a nice hand worn patina finish. Skeleton butt has silver and mixed with some brown patina areas. Forend is sound with silver patinaed metal, slightly worn checkering, a few minor nicks and scratches with hand worn patina finish. Gun is remarkably tight with crisp mechanics, shiny bores with only a few minor shallow pits. 4-33450 BDT169 (7,500-12,500)
