*RARE SUPER CHARLIN SLIDING BREECH OVER UNDER. SN 738. Cal. 16ga. 2-1/2″ Chambers. Double triggers. This very unusual shotgun has 26-3/4″ Superposed bbls w/ full length matted rib w/ inset rear V sight and aluminum bead front. French proofs for 65mm chambers. Bottom bbl is marked “J.M.”, “S”, and SN “738”. Right side w/ breech is stamped “Super Charlin” in an oval. Unusual sliding breech action has matching numbers, and all interior surfaces are polished and damascened. Blued action has relief engraving at top of breech block w/ “Super Charlin” and acanthus engraving on toggle lock. Lever safety on lower left side w/ “S” inlaid in gold. Floor plate and trigger guard are aluminum, finished bright. Lightly streaked European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14-1/4″ over plain horn butt plate. Checkering is 20 LPI w/ broad mullered borders. Sling loop is present on toe line and matching one is soldered to bottom of bbl. Forend has Deeley release, and checkering to match buttstock. Bore diameter: top -.672, bottom -.673. Bore restrictions: top -.027, bottom -.003. Wall thickness: top -.024, bottom -.018. Drop at heel: 2-3/8″, drop at comb: 1-7/8″. Weight: 6 lbs 3.5oz. PROVENANCE: Dr. Frank Miller Collection. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbls and action retain virtually all their orig blue, w/ few scratches from use. Toggle lock is heat blued, and shows some flaking.
