FAIRBANK’S GOLD DUST WASHING POWDER STORE DISPLAY. A fabulous and extremely rare 3-D store window display with the stereotype rendered Gold Dust twins flanking three colossal boxes of Fairbank’s Gold Dust washing powder. The display consists of two parts, a heavy cardboard base with a stone lithographed illustration of the Gold Dust twins symmetrically posed in front of a circa 1915 kitchen sink, and an upper part consisting of a stack of three large cardboard boxes of washing powder. The base features an elaborate rear folding easel mechanism on which the boxes of washing powder rest. The boxes themselves have wonderful graphics and advertising printed on all six sides. This is possibly the only remaining display as no other examples are known to this cataloger or to our knowledge have appeared at auction. The base is marked “Designed by the T.F. Moore Co., Milwaukee, Wis.” who specialized in the manufacture of store window displays between 1910-1920. SIZE: Base: 43″ w x 8″ d x 35-1/4″ h. Boxes: 14″ w x 8″ d x 20″ h. CONDITION: The base is in very good condition. Close examination reveals some moisture discoloration to the lower right corner, some light foxing to the twins’ skirt directly above, and some soiling and wear to the top of the head. The three soap boxes are generally good to very good. Two have some light water stains and soiling and a few small nail holes sized punctures. 1-9411 (12,000-15,000) Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - Spring 2009 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price. The prices noted here after the auction are considered unofficial and do not become official until after the 46th day. |
