FINE JAPANESE SILK ORIENTAL SCROLL. 19th century. This rich example having a midnight blue panel within a floral textured coffee-brown paper border; the blue panel finely stitched depicting flying cranes within a fan, a brace of partridge feeding beneath a flowering bush, a songbird on branch, above a cartouche depicting a crawfish and carp in aquatic plants. The whole amidst stylized flowering dogwood. SIZE: 81″ overall l. x 23-1/2″ w. PROVENANCE: From a fine Beacon Hill and Thomaston estate. CONDITION: Overall very fine condition, with some creasing and small areas of weakness in silk work. The floral backing in good condition. 9-93581 (600-900)
