FINE SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1884 TRAPDOOR RIFLE WITH BAYONET. Cal. 45-70. SN 483536. 32-5/8” rnd bbl. Standard Springfield markings on lockplate and breechblock. “SWP” cartouche dated “1889” on left side of stock. Standard US markings on 18-1/2” triangular bayonet. Leather frog is attached to leather belt loop with a “US” brass rosette. CONDITION: Excellent, with little sign of wear, except at muzzle, where bayonet has worn about 1/4” of finish. Wood has only tiny handling marks. Casehardening on breechblock is brilliant. Action is fine. Blade of bayonet has about 95% bright blue, socket about 75%. Scabbard retains about half of blue mixed with surface rust, with areas of scale and pitting. Frog and belt loop are chipped and cracked. 4-59064 FS696 (2,000-3,000)
