*L.C. SMITH UPGRADED GRADE 3 DAMASCUS DOUBLE BARREL SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 ga. SN 42686. Fine Hunter Arms double with 28” fine chain Damascus bbls choked FULL/IMP-CYL with flat, tapered, matted rib, sgl bead, crossbolt rib extension, extractor & dbl triggers. Mounted with very highly figured, orig circassian walnut with checkered, black insert, semi-schnable splinter forearm with dog’s head, hard rubber inlay & semi-pistol grip stock with extensive checkering, 14” over a serrated, hard rubber buttplate. It has an oval hard rubber grip cap. Lockplates are decorated with large vignettes of two quail in a field scene on left side & two woodcock in a marsh scene on right side with maker’s name on each lockplate with light arabesque patterns on receiver & lockplates. Triggerguard & opening lever are engraved to match. Bore diameter: left – .723, right – .724. Bore restrictions: left – .036, right – .002. Wall thickness: left – .024, right – .021. Drop at heel: 2-3/4”, drop at comb: 1-5/8”. Weight: 7 lbs. .96 oz. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter identifying this shotgun as originally a Grade 2, 12 ga. with 28” bbls. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbls retain 95-97% strong restored, chocolate brown, Damascus pattern with some thinning over chamber areas and light muzzle & chamber edge wear. Receiver & lockplates retain most of their fine restored colors, brilliant in most areas, slightly faded on bottom front. Stock has a crack above right lockplate, otherwise wood is sound and retains most of its strong restored finish with a minor nick or two.
