JAPANESE TACHI. 27 5/8” shinogi zukuri blade, ubu nakago inscribed tachi mei “HIZEN (NO) KUNI JU NIN TADAYOSHI SAKU”. Chu suguha hamon (medium straight temper), hada is a mixed itami mokume (wood burl grain). SIZE: 41” long overall. MOUNTS: Tachi mounted. Iron plate tsuba with applied shakudo mon, all other fittings of shakudo with ishime ground and gilt matching mon and edges. Very large gilt menuki of dragon constellations. Ashi (hangers) with ito untied. The first third of the saya is striped alternating glossy and flat black. Balance is lacquered black and orange reminiscent of tiger fur. Tan tsuka ito. CONDITION: Blade in very nice polish having some minor scuffing. There is a 1” fukura (blister) that has been hammered down about 9” up from the machi at the shinogi. Blade also shows some shintetsu (core steel) in several areas. Overall an impressive looking sword in nice clean condition other than the blade defects. In bag.
