WATSON BROTHERS SIDE LOCK EJECTOR GAME GUN WITH TWO SETS OF BARRELS AND CASE. SN 5243. (ca. 1897) Cal. 12 Ga. 30″ BBLs 2-3/4″ chambers. 28″ BBLs 2-1/2″ chambers. 30″ Dovetailed barrels are engraved “Watson Bro’s 29 Old Bond Street London.” on low narrow concave game rib with third fastener extension. Bbl flats show London proofs and relatively new Birmingham re-proof for 2-3/4″ chambers at 850 bar and are stamped “Sleeved”. (Sleeve joint has been tig welded, and is almost invisible.) 28″ Dovetailed barrels are engraved “Watson Bros. 7, Bury Street St. James’s, London.” on narrow concave game rib. Bbl flats have Birmingham nitro proofs for 2-1/2″ chambers at three tons per square inch. Breech ends of both sets of bbls have feather engraving. Rear of rib extensions are scroll engraved surrounding a large no. “1”. Front acting sidelock action has nicely filed beads, and is stocked to the fences. Action flats have London view proofs, Birmingham nitro proofs, SN, as well as, “Pat – 10084 – 89 No. 255”. Breech faces are stamped “Pat Gas Check no. 6460” and are fitted with these vents. Action and sidelocks are engraved with about 60% coverage shaded open scroll with rose bouquets. “Watson Bros” is in ribands with scroll terminations on each lockplate. No. “1” is engraved on top lever and surrounded by scroll. Automatic safety has “Safe” relief engraved on tang. Blued trigger guard has matching scroll and SN on tang. Nicely marbled and lightly fiddle figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14-5/8″ over thin ribbed horn buttplate, and features vacant silver oval, drop points, and 22 LPI point pattern checkering with double line border. Matching splinter forend has Anson release. 30″ BBL set: Bore diameter: left -.717, right -.719. Bore restrictions: left -.025, right -.015. Wall thickness: left -.041, right -.040. Drop at heel: 2-1/8″, drop at comb: 1-1/2″. Weight: 7 lbs. .6 oz, LOP 14-5/8″. 28″ BBL set: Bore diameter: left -.729, right -.729. Bore restrictions: left -.011, right -.001. Wall thickness: left -.029, right -.030. Weight: 6 lbs. 11 oz. Brown leather case with plated steel lock has brass corners and is lined with burgundy leather with a paper Watson Brothers label inside of lid, and 5 covered compartments with brass knobs, and oak dividers in bottom. CONDITION: Good, as refurbished. Bbls have virtually all of their London quality black. Action is mostly pewter gray with traces of case color in protected areas. Screw heads have been re-blued and show use and polishing. Triggers, trigger guard and top lever have been re-blued with engraving slightly washed. Thumbpiece is beginning to silver. Stocks have virtually all of a rubbed oil finish. Checkering has been re-cut. Action is tight. Barrels are on face. Ejectors are in time. Bores are excellent. There is some radial scoring toward muzzle of left bbl on 28″ set, probably from reaming choke. Case exterior leather shows some scuffs. Handle and straps are good. Interior is excellent.
