*VERY RARE WINCHESTER MODEL 70 1ST VARIATION TARGET RIFLE. SN 50437. Cal. 250-3000, 24″ bbl, integral stippled ramp front with small globe sight, rear seat and front receiver bridge with scope bases, topped with Lyman Super Target Spot Scope. Left side of bbl and front of sight boss is marked “WINCHESTER/PROOF STEEL-MODEL 70-WINCHESTER/TRADEMARK-250-3000 SAV.” Right side marked “MADE IN U.S.A. WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO./NEW HAVEN, CONN.-PATENTED”. Bottom of bbl is marked “C.M.S. 25-3.S” and dated “33”. Standard pre-war receiver marked “WINCHESTER/TRADEMARK”, center left side. cut for stripper clip, equipped with Lyman 48 WJS sight, rear bridge with one D&T hole, solid bolt handle, pre-war safety, no number can be found on bolt, standard mag box, spring and follower. Mounted with marksman stock, beavertail forend with inlet rail, hand stop & swivels, multi-point checkered forend with blank diamond in center, checkered pistol grip, checkered steel buttplate, inlet swivel base with swivel. Roger Rule’s book on Win M70s confirms the rarity of this gun and its configuration. CONDITION: Very good. Bbl retains 85-90% orig blue with muzzle wear and normal nicks, dings & scratches, and some minor thinning behind front sight. Receiver retains orig matt blue with wear on sharp edges. Floorplate retains 70% thinning orig blue, silvery on edges and numerous light scratches. Trigger guard has flaked and blended with a brown & silver patina. Stock is sound showing use with forend checkering slightly flat, numerous nicks, dings & shallow scratches, slightly flat checkering in pistol grip, appears orig finish with much flaking and wear, blending with hand worn patina.
