L.C. SMITH GRADE 3 DOUBLE BARREL SHOTGUN. Cal. 12. ga. SN 213765. One of 2,093 guns in this configuration made in period 1892-1912. It has 32” Hunter Steel bbls choked “FULL/MOD with tapered, concave, matted rib, dbl ivory beads, crossbolt rib extension, ejectors and Hunter One-trigger. Bbl flats are stamped “CHAMBERS 3 INCHES” and they are 3”. Mounted with nicely figured, English walnut with checkered, black insert, splinter forearm and semi-pistol grip stock, 14-1/8” over a serrated, hard rubber buttplate. It has a hard rubber grip cap. Receiver & lockplates are nicely engraved with two quail on each side, along with maker’s name and light arabesque patterns. Bore diameter: left – .727, right – .727. Bore restrictions: left – .033, right – .029. Wall thickness: left – .027, right – .028. Drop at heel: 2-1/2”, drop at comb: 1-1/2”. Weight: 8 lbs. 1.28 oz. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter identifying this shotgun as a Grade 3E, 12 ga. with 32” bbls finished July 28, 1911. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbls retain about 90% strong, orig blue with some slight thinning over chamber areas and a minor scratch or two. Receiver & lockplates retain most of a fine professionally restored finish with brilliant case colors. Stock has hairlines back of both lockplates, otherwise wood is sound with light handling & use marks and retains most of a professionally restored finish. Mechanics are fine, bright shiny bores with a small scrape and some light pitting in right side and a few spots in left side, having been honed. 4-30186 JR166 (2,500-4,000)
