PAUL PLANTE (American, 1943- ) SEVEN PLUM STUDIES. Pastel on paper Housed in a single modern wood frame with matte Signed bottom right “Paul Plante” in two of the studies NOTE: Paul Plante was creating pastels of plums and other fruit but the plum examples he found were most intriguing to people, as O’Keeffe’s flowers were, for suggestions of sexual connotations. The Mother Superior of his cathedral in Winslow, Maine informed Paul that he would not be doing any more plums so he turned to other subjects, particularly bird’s eyes. Paul would go to his easel every afternoon at 3:00 and produce a work as he called it a form of meditation SIZE: Each are 5″ sq. Sight size of frame 11-1/2″ x 43-3/4″. Overall: 13″ x 45-1/4″.
